Warrior: “One who is engaged aggressively or energetically in an activity, cause or conflict”
YOU can take the fight to leukaemia by tackling it head-on and joining forces with other members of the Rugby Union Community in Australia who have already signed up with the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry to fight the disease.
Becoming a “Warrior” means you undertake a simple and non-invasive cheek swab so the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) can record your vital blood information which will be called upon only if needed to match a person suffering from leukaemia
Tragically, the ABMDR cannot met the need for suitable stem cell donors in this country as very few Australian donors at this time, are registered with the agency. Most Australian patients needing a stem cell transplant will have to find a donor from overseas.
The situation is even worse for people of Pasifika, NZ Māori, or Indigenous heritage as so few from these backgrounds are registered on any registry, anywhere in the world!
The country needs several thousands of fit, younger donors of diverse ethnic backgrounds to register each year to address the shortfall of people who are on the registry and replace those who leave the registry due to older age restrictions.
